Privacy Policy

What we collect

Directly from you, only what the product needs:

• Account and profile: your name, email, phone number, preferred language, and anything you add to your profile (photo, bio, general area, languages, contact preferences, and free-text about your living situation).
• Listings and applications: the room details a landlord posts, and the application details a tenant provides: a self-reported income range, number of references, a short about-you, answers to the landlord's questions, and any income-proof documents you choose to upload.
• Lease documents: the room rental agreement PDF a landlord uploads, and, when electronic signing is used, the signing record (the time, your IP address and device, and cryptographic hashes of the document) and the sealed signed PDF.
• Messages you send to the other party on the platform.
• Payment records: when rent is recorded, we store the amount, the method (for example cash or Zelle), the date, and status. We do not store card or bank account numbers.
• Technical data: your IP address and device/browser information, used for security, fraud prevention, reliability, and to attribute an electronic signature to the moment it was made.

What we do NOT collect (your providers hold it)

Some sensitive data never touches Unido:

• Identity documents. Identity verification runs through Stripe Identity. Stripe checks the person and returns a result. We store only that result (verified or not) and a Stripe reference, never your ID image, date of birth, or biometric data.
• Payment card and bank details. When online payments are offered, they are handled by Stripe. We store a Stripe reference (a token), not your card number or bank account number.

Screening (credit or background checks) is not active on Unido today. If we offer it in the future, a licensed provider will process it and we will store the decision (and any legally required adverse-action record), not the underlying report, and we will update this policy first.

How we use it

To operate the marketplace: show listings, route applications, tours, and messages between landlords and tenants, verify people through Stripe, store the rental's records (agreement, condition record, payment history), prevent fraud and abuse, and improve the product. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell it.

Who can see what

Listings and a landlord's public profile are visible to anyone browsing, never a photo, name, age, or gender of applicants in browse. Your contact details stay private until you choose to reveal them by messaging or applying. An application is visible to the landlord of that room. Messages are visible only to the two people in a conversation. A signed lease is visible only to the two parties to it.

Service providers

We share data with providers only to run the service:

• Supabase: Database, authentication, private file storage, and messaging.
• Stripe: Identity verification and (when offered) payments.
• Resend: Sending transactional email.
• Google Maps: Showing an approximate map location (we blur the exact address).
• Vercel: Hosting.

Each processes data under its own security terms. We do not have advertising trackers or data-broker partners.

We do not sell or share your personal information

Unido does not sell your personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). There is nothing to opt out of; if that ever changes, we will say so here first and provide the required opt-out.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and profile data while your account is active, and delete it when you ask (see below). Uploaded income-proof documents are removed automatically a short time after an application is reviewed. Signed leases and the signing records that prove them are retained for as long as the law and the rental relationship require. An executed lease is a legal record and cannot be altered or deleted on request. We keep the minimum needed for each purpose.

Your rights

If you live in California, you may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can start an access or deletion request from your account settings, or email us. We will confirm exactly what is deleted and what must be legally retained. We will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Files with personal information (income documents, leases) live in private storage reachable only through short-lived, authenticated links. Sensitive processing happens on our servers, not in your browser.
